PROS

  • Provides a very clean and ‘alive’ sound which picks up a lot of detail without making the music sound all too harsh or bright
  • Excellent audio separation of the powerful deep bass with mid and high range frequencies using its patented 50mm Dual-Diaphragm makes the M1-100 headphones the top choices amongst audiophiles
  • Has great durability and is very tough in build, it’s actually been made to withstand impacts or falls from over 6 feet high onto concrete slab floors
  • Built with supremely crafted components and driver than other headphones in the same price range
  • Very compact and light for carry or travel. The headphones fold up flat into a bundle which make them easy to travel in carry bags or with other luggage.
  • Built for comfort. The ergonomics for the headband and hexagon shaping for the ear pieces ensures there is minimal pressure or force on your head so you wear these headphones for longer. In addition, you get the benefit of BLISS Memory material for the foam cushions that allows a natural comfortable shaping that forms around your ear along with maximum noise isolation.

CONS

  • Those with tight budgets will find the biggest negative is the price tag on the M-100 is fairly high retailing at around the 220 USD mark and up to 300 USD. However if money is not an issue for you, then in terms of build, sound quality and overall features, the M-100 is going to measure up.
  • The cable supplied in the box is not coiled. Some DJ’s or other professional prefer coiled over straight cords.

Below is a detailed review of the M-100, explaining all that these headphones have to offer and determining whether they deserve to be considered among the best over ear headphones. This review takes into account our personal experience with this model, its features, performance, as well as reviews from other users.

Design:

It’s quite hard to any design faults with the Crossfade M-100. V-Moda have designed the driver-casing to bear a distinct hexagonal shape, in addition to its sharp lines and the headband’s exposed bolts. V-Moda has always stood at the forefront in an effort of bringing the industrial feel and look. Its thus not a surprise that they’ve already achieved their goals, setting a top standard for the manufacturing and selling of headphones.

It gives off an extremely industrial feel, which is perfectly compatible with V-Moda’s electronica-focused brand or image. The M-100 has a bungee-cord-like detachable cable that gives these headphones an adventurous feel and look.

The Crossfade M-100 incorporates a neatly designed double-hinged mechanism that allows the ear cups to smoothly slide straight into the headband’s curve. This is inarguably much more convenient, especially when compared with the usual swivel-style which many other folding headphones tend to have. These headphones are available in grey, white and mate black.

Comfort and Fit:

Although the M-100 may seem to have a snug fit, it’s still comfortable enough. Actually, most users have reported being very satisfied with the products, and very few have complained about the snug fit. Actually, sticking to the snug fit is very easy you can just adjust the headband.

The firm-clamping action ensures that the M-100 is always on your head in almost all kinds and situations of movement. They’re hence a great model to consider purchasing, especially for long commute or extensive hours for DJ’s in the studio or clubs.

Performance:

Once you start using them, the first thing you’ll notice is the deep thump in the bass while still having clear audio separation for the mid to highs. You’ll even note that your tracks will sound more exciting than whatever else you’ve heard before.

The M-100 is suitably open, providing clear separation of all the audio elements in any mix. It performs exclusively well, perfect for spotting even the faint elements in tracks.

Sound Quality:

V-Moda headphones have always been all about powerful bass that comes often at the expense of mid-range and treble performance. The M-100 is powered by a V-Moda’s patented 50 mm dual-diaphragm driver, producing a frequency response ranging from 5 kHz to 30 kHz.

These headphones are undeniably unique, given that they produce an exceptionally detailed and clean sound.

The bass remains powerful even at high volumes, without any signs of crackles, rattling or distortion. The vocals sound amazingly warm, in addition to the impressive clarity-rich sound-stage for live performances. The M-100 headphones are still capable of passive noise isolation, which in turn eliminates the need for batteries in order to cut out the surrounding commuter crowd.

Durability:

The M-100 is exceedingly rugged in build and can cope with any high impact dropping of them. In fact, the M-100 has been tested to withstand more than 70 impacts or drops from a 6 feet high distances directly onto a concrete floor. Its steel is reinforced so that it could be flattened ten times and yet return to the original curve.

The ‘BLISS’ memory foam on the ear cushions will mould to the user’s ear for better comfort as well as noise isolation seal. These are also user replaceable.
